Dirty History of Sanford Brick yards & Dumping in Lee County NC?

Well I first wrote this & shared this on Facebook . Nov 29th, 2015 Changed the name of this yesterday from original (trivia: What does Sanford brickyards and Donald Trump have in common? ) But because DT became president, folks want to get all political on the ELEE page I posted it.
So I am putting it here and will share it that way.

I felt it needed sharing again as a reminder of the industrial crap Lee county has had dumped here on us in the past and why we don't want to be dumped on anymore!

Bottom line:How much of all the 'waste' that was brought to Lee county to be made into bricks leaked into the ground-waters and watershed below it?? We will never know?

So why Dump Millions of Tons of Coal Ash in the same place and call it "reclamation?"

Things found on History of Brick company
Cherokee Sanford Group & Tom Darden

SHARING FOUND INFORMATION by concerned citizens :
If  YOU have more PLEASE share too.
Leave yours in the comments below please ...I will add new info as we can.

Quite fascinating. Like Rossi, Tom Darden has been intimately involved in repurposing industrial contaminated waste as something useful. Kindred  souls? Something more? Fellow con artists? You decide.
>>> >>> "HISTORY >>> In 1984, a group of investors including Tom Darden purchased four brick plants and merged them to form Cherokee Sanford Group (CSG), which grew to become the largest privately held brick manufacturer in North America.
When we discovered petroleum-contaminated soil at one of the plant sites, the regulators suggested taking the impaired soil to a nearby landfill. As an  alternative, CSGproposed mixing it with clean clay in the brick-making process. The combustion in the kilns burned up the fuel oil in the soil.

From this beginning, CSG started a business of receiving contaminated clay from underground storage tank clean-ups.
By 1990, CSG was the largest soil remediator in the mid-Atlantic region, eventually cleaning up nearly 15 million tons of contaminated material.
Tom Darden and John Mazzarino formed the predecessor company of Cherokee  in 1993 to focus exclusively on environmentally impaired assets.
In 1994 they organized a risk management advisory affiliate and then formed Cherokee's first institutional capital (Fund I) in 1996.
Cherokee formed a  $250 million private equity fund (Fund II) in 1998, a $620 million fund  (Fund III) in 2002, and its current, $1.2 billion fund (Fund IV) in 2005.

this is freaking scary
2008 story makes them sound like Environmental heroes : "It's a contrarian strategy," says Tom Darden, Cherokee's chief executive. "We try to find value in something that's unpopular." Sustainability column is about Darden and Cherokee.
Here’s how it begins:
When General Motors closed down a manufacturing plant in Boisbrand, Quebec, a private investment company called Cherokee Investment Partners bought the tainted industrial site.
After Burlington Mills shuttered a textile factory in Mooresville, N.C., Cherokee acquired the property even though it was contaminated by asbestos and toxic chemicals known as PCBs.
And just across the Hudson River from Manhattan, Cherokee and developer Donald Trump are tackling another dirty job. They intend to build homes, apartments, stores and a world-class golf course atop four garbage dumps in the New Jersey Meadowlands.

2017 NOW since I am re-posting this I decided to find out more on Darden now.
