Lois Gibbs in Sanford NC

BREDL was announcing a letter to the governor at the Press conference 1:00 pm November 19, 2013 at the Lee County NC courthouse featuring Lois Gibbs, Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Health, Environment and Justice . This is part of the NO Toxic Trespass! NO Fracking Way! Tour sponsored by Cumnock Preservation Association , Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League ,PEE DEE WALL and more.

Gibbs's involvement in environmental causes began in 1978 when she discovered that her 7-year-old son's elementary school in Niagara Falls, New York was built on a toxic waste dump. Subsequent investigation revealed that her entire neighborhood, Love Canal, had been built on top of this dump.[1] With no prior experience in community activism, Gibbs organized her neighbors and formed the Love Canal Homeowners Association.[2] She led her community in a battle against the local, state, and federal governments. After years of struggle, 833 families were eventually evacuated, and cleanup of Love Canal began. National press coverage made Lois Gibbs a household name. Her efforts also led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, or Superfund, which is used to locate and clean up toxic waste sites throughout the United States.[3]
In 1980, Gibbs formed the Citizens' Clearinghouse for Hazardous Waste, later renamed the Center for Health, Environment and Justice (CHEJ), where she currently serves as Executive Director.[4] CHEJ is a grassroots environmental crisis center that provides information, resources, technical assistance and training to community groups around the nation. CHEJ seeks to form strong local organizations in order to protect neighborhoods from exposure to hazardous wastes.

Today I got the honor to meet Lois,  I have known about her for a long time . I was a teenager the first time I heard of her on the news about "Love Canal"...
I remember thinking the name sounded like a ride at Coney island ?
Lois Gibbs is a true American Environmental Activist  .
She came to help people in NC fight fracking and we were proud to have her.

Here is the video I was able to take at the Press Conference today at the Lee County courthouse. There were about 20 people standing around the conference and about that many more standing around waiting on court cases that were listening too.

I am not a professional camera person and with the wind blowing ,folks walking around making me move from place to place it was not easy . I was able to get most of the speaking in these 4 videos below .
